This video essay explores the psychological horror and psychological thriller elements of Repulsion (1965) and Black Swan (2010), examining their thematic and stylistic parallels while highlighting key contrasts. Both films delve into the deterioration of the female psyche, using subjective filmmaking techniques to immerse the audience in the protagonists’ mental descent.
Key themes explored include isolation, sexual repression, body horror, and the blurring of reality and hallucination.
